How We Started

Our Roots

Ben and Carole Backman established Kingston Construction in 1962, from residential and commercial projects to the professional and multifaceted organization that it is today. Their values and commitment to quality, innovation and fairness are embedded in the company.

In the Beginning…

In 1962, while working a full time job, Ben Backman struck up a friendship with the owner of an established construction company. They decided to bid on some small construction jobs together; Ben would work and run the projects and the partner would provide financial backing.

They eventually were awarded their first contract to build sidewalks in Port Coquitlam. However, at the last minute, the partner backed out of the agreement.

With 3 small children and a mortgage payment, Ben left his superintendent’s job on a Friday and started his first contract that following Monday
